
Summary: The “Wilder Bunch” is a high school trail crew that builds and maintains the trails of Delta County, including Hotchkiss, Delta, Cedaredge, Paonia, and Crawford. In this position, you will learn skills in construction, wildlife habitat restoration and trail building while riding bikes, improving wildlife habitat and having fun on the trail. Crew members will gain outdoor leadership skills, confidence in outdoor sports and learn to push themselves physically while building the skills and fundamentals needed to construct hiking and biking trails. Crew will get the chance to visit exciting trail projects at Powderhorn, Crested Butte and Redstone.
Responsibilities: Each week, students will work on outdoor trail construction projects and have the opportunity to ride the trails they build! We are looking for energetic and enthusiastic team members who enjoy working hard. Experience with outdoor activities is helpful; but not required.
Qualifications: Current high school student (recent grads OK if under 18); transportation to/from work site required; experience with outdoor work (yard work, farm chores or carpentry)
Location: Crews will spend 1-2 weeks building and maintaining trails in each of the communities in Delta County: Hotchkiss, Paonia, Delta, Cedaredge and Crawford.

Dates: Required wilderness first aid and outdoor safety training provided May 30th-June 2nd . Schedule is usually 5-6 hours/day Monday-Thursday (30 hours max) from May 31- start of school. Schedule is potentially flexible to accommodate family trips, but we will give preference to crew members who are dedicated to working for the whole summer. Exact weekly schedule will be coordinated by trail crew lead at the beginning of the work season.
Paid internship: $14-$15.00/hour. Free outdoor gear use during the summer (SUP, mountain bikes, camping equipment.) Wilderness First Aid training will be provided and students who complete the training will receive bonus pay.
