Job Summary: New this summer, the Nature Connection will host a mobile climbing wall at local community events. The climbing coordinator will organize events and serve as the rock climbing lead during summer camps and adventure programs hosted by the Nature Connection. Learning to rock climb will help empower participants to build self-confidence and positive relationships through teamwork. While climbing experience is helpful, it is not a requirement of the position.

Responsibilities:  

  • Manage the mobile climbing wall and coordinate schedule for designated summer events and youth day camps for the Nature Connection
  • Drive company vehicle while hauling the climbing wall to and from program location; ensure safe set-up and take-down of systems
  • Integrate available rock climbing resources into youth summer camps (mobile wall along with a sport climbing and bouldering wall at Cedaredge Middle School)
  • Provide outdoor skills instruction and overall supervision of climbing activities during community events and summer camps
  • Ensure climbing is safe at all times by using proper equipment and belay techniques while providing a fun and exciting learning environment for youth and interns
  • Mentor and supervise up to two Nature Connection high school climbing employees or interns ages 14-18
  • Potential to collaborate with staff as needed to help develop additional climbing activities for youth and family programs that meet the needs of participants from diverse backgrounds
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

  • Experience working with youth in an outdoor environment preferred
  • Enthusiasm for working with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Attention to detail and overall risk management mindset required
  • Willingness to self-reflect, change and adapt
  • Strong group facilitation and communication skills
  • Experience bouldering or rock climbing preferred, not required. Training will be provided.
  • Ability to learn and perform basic climbing wall maintenance if necessary
  • Experience driving a trailer preferred, not required. Training will be provided.
  • Extended time spent outdoors in various summer weather conditions
  • Drivers License and clean driving record
  • First Aid/CPR certificate 

Compensation: $16-$18 per hour 

Location: The Nature Connection HQ; 397 Miners Way, Hotchkiss, CO 81419

Effective Date:  Open until filled; summer position with potential for work throughout school year
