Full Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Nature Connection Advisory Board and Delta County School District, the Executive Director oversees all outdoor and environmental education programs including, but not limited to, summer camps, school-based outdoor education, community program, high school internships and infrastructure development all designed to increase equitable access to the outdoors.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee and ensure the success of day-to-day operations at the Nature Connection; delegate management of program responsibilities to Leadership Team staff, full-time staff, seasonal employees and volunteers
  • Coordinate and conduct regular meetings with the Advisory Board, presentations, correspondence, and media coverage with partner organizations including: DCSD and Olathe Schools; communities of the North Fork (Hotchkiss, Paonia, Crawford), Cedaredge, Delta, and Olathe; and all public, private, and non-profit agency partners
  • Develop and manage an annual budget of over $750k including the administration of multiple state and federal grants, private donations, program revenue and in-kind contributions
  • Work closely with Delta County School District, Delta County fiscal agents
  • Develop relationships with funders to ensure long-term financial sustainability
  • Ensure safe outdoor programming through development and refinement of protocols
  • Maintain regular board and community communications, set board meeting agendas, publicize board meetings and report project updates to board.

Skill Requirements:

  • Excellent organization, leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Grant writing experience
  • Knowledge of business management, finance, and accounting including: budgeting activities, project management, board management, marketing through social media, fundraising, and team management experience
  • Possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License and become certified to operate a Delta County School District vehicle

Compensation: $55,000-$70,000 based on experience

Benefits: Health insurance, PERA retirement fund

Time: Full-time exempt position; work schedule will include weekdays, weekends, and may include holidays and evenings. Minimum 40 hours
