Healthy Forest Science Internship 2022

Summary: Learn how to camp and have fun in the outdoors while completing a field research project with the US Forest Service and Colorado State University near Crawford. 

Responsibilities: Interns will collect data on tree growth and other ecological factors in the forest. Additionally, interns will attend a week-long outdoor orientation adventure to learn about camping, backpacking and living outdoors. Position requires some camping out with fellow interns, supervised by the Nature Connection staff. Schedule is to be determined but may require some weekend commitment.

Qualifications: Enthusiasm to be outside all day and hike 1-2 miles per day in mountainous terrain. No previous outdoor experience required, however you must be excited to learn how to live and work in the mountains! Interns will be provided all the necessary gear and training on how to become field scientists. This is an excellent science and research pathway for students interested in majoring in biology, environmental science and natural resource management. 

Pathways Opportunity: 4 available internship openings. Designed for students entering 9th grade and up.

Paid Internship: Stipend amount TBA; Interns will receive a fully paid for overnight outdoor adventure scheduled in June; field work will occur late June, early July. Specific dates will be communicated before end of school year; stipend provided for food while in field; all necessary outdoor gear provided (camping equipment, sleeping bag etc)

Location: Crawford area near Gunnison National Forest; transportation will be provided
