
Summary: Work with the United States Forest Service on a camping-based crew in the Kebler Pass backcountry on the Gunnison National Forest.
Responsibilities: Crew members will help clear fallen trees and maintain trails in the Kebler Pass area of the Paonia Ranger District. Additionally, crew will perform regular maintenance of developed recreation sites including trailhead signs and campground facilities. Position requires camping out with fellow crew members, supervised by Forest Service crew leaders for up to three nights per week through the season. Schedule may vary, however weekend commitments may be required.
Qualifications: Must be 16 or older by June 1st. Experience working with a team, previous outdoor labor experience preferred (farm chores, construction, etc); ability and enthusiasm to hike 1-10 miles per day in mountainous terrain while carrying a loaded backpack. No previous outdoor experience required, however you must be excited to live and work in the wilderness all summer! Crew members will be provided all the necessary gear and training on how to become proficient in the backcountry. This is an excellent pathway to jobs with the National Park Service, US Forest Service, CO Parks and Wildlife, wildland firefighting, and field science.

Paid Internship: $12.56/hour, 40 hours/week for 10 weeks; May 31st – August 12; full season commitment required; all food/supplies provided while in field; all necessary outdoor gear provided (camping equipment, sleeping bag etc.)
Location: Paonia Ranger District (Kebler Pass Area); transportation required to Paonia office; transportation will be provided to field site
