Youth Bike Coach & Lead Gear Tech

Coach & Gear Tech will be in charge of maintaining outdoor summer camp equipment (primarily bikes) at The Nature Connection headquarters in Hotchkiss and teaching bicycle safety and basic riding skills to kids ages 7-14. We are looking for a fun, dynamic individual who loves riding bikes and wants to share their enthusiasm with kids! Daily tasks include bike repair and gear upkeep including fixing flat tires, cleaning and maintaining derailers, completing pre/post gear check-ins and daily organization of gear equipment rooms. As a gear tech, our employee will teach and supervise high school gear interns in cleaning and maintaining bicycles. As a coach, our employee is required to work alongside the Generation Wild Leads to instruct safe mountain bike skills to kids in summer camp. Additionally, gear tech will assist The Nature Connection Leadership in transporting equipment to and from program locations throughout Delta County as needed.  

Minimum Requirements:

  • Age 16+
  • Driver’s license and reliable transportation to/from Hotchkiss
  • Mountain bike and other outdoor sport enthusiast 
  • Experience repairing and maintaining a wide-variety of mountain bikes and other outdoor gear (paddleboards, tents and more!)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to drive a truck and trailer 
  • Outdoor education, coaching or other teaching experience

Location: The Nature Connection, Hotchkiss and Bill Heddles Rec Center

Position: 1 job opening available

Time: 30-40 hours/week tentatively from June 1 through mid August 2020 to be negotiated with the Leadership Team and based upon summer camp activities each week. Typical schedule will be Monday – Thursday, 8am-5pm.

Compensation: Hourly: $12-$18/hour depending on experience
