The Nature Connection is dedicated to eliminating the barriers to getting outside by providing fun, active, and educational outdoor experiences for youth and families in our community.
The Nature Connection serves kids and families in Delta County and Olathe. Our programs are supported by the Delta County School District. We were launched in 2018 through a grant from the Generation Wild initiative from Great Outdoors Colorado.
Kids in the rural communities in Delta and Montrose County can often see mountains, rivers and mesas from their school yards, but face varied physical and economic barriers to getting outside.
We provide places, programs and pathways that break down these barriers. We develop connecting trails that connect our backyards to the backcountry. Our school programs, summer camps and community events help kids and families weave a love for the outdoors into the fabric of their lives. Pathways help young people develop confidence in the outdoors and prepare them for jobs in the outdoors.
The Nature Connection is the hub of outdoor education for Delta County and Olathe – supported by the Delta County School District.
Generation Wild was created by Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) to reconnect kids with nature and help them to experience the incredible benefits that are right outside the front door.
One of our GenWild Initiatives is to create “Places” where our communities can engage with the outdoors. So far, we have installed climbing boulders at all elementary schools, bicycle trails and a pump track, seating areas, StoryWalks™ and more.
