About Us

The Nature Connection is the hub of environmental education for Delta County and Olathe, and is supported by the Delta County School District. We are in the process of building a gear library and outdoor education programming. Our on site hours are variable right now, so call the number above if you would like to see our facilities.

The Nature Connection is supported by the Western Colorado Community Foundation/Delta County School District Educational Foundation (WCCF/DCSDF), and functions as a non-profit under the DCSD umbrella. The WCCF has been instrumental in their support of The Nature Connection's programs by providing funding opportunities to collectively support new projects, programs, and people who can enhance our students' futures. The Nature Connection does just that, by investing in the future of our students and community while promoting enjoyment and conservation of our amazing local natural resources. Your donations to The Nature Connection go directly to providing outdoor education that enhances the school district's curriculum, as well as offering students the opportunity to extend that outdoor experience with their families. We are offering cross-country ski rentals for schools and youth groups through our newly acquired Skis For Kids program, and will be expanding our gear library to include other outdoor education opportunities as soon as we can make that happen. Keep checking back for updates on gear availability for your youth groups and families!

The Nature Connection coalition received a Level 1 GOCO Inspire planning grant in October 2015 to survey the population of the Greater Delta County and create a more comprehensive plan to get more kids and their families outside. We will be posting survey results in June 2016, and then will be creating our plan for getting youth and their families outside. We will compete for 1-5 million dollars from GOCO to implement our plans in April of 2017!

We need your help! First we need your ideas, so take our survey by watching the video and hitting the survey button on the first page. And we will need your financial support as whatever amount we get from GOCO, we will need a 10% cash match. This means if we win one million dollars, we will need $100,000 in cash from our county to match this amount. Donate now on our web page! Keep posted by checking our website for news updates on community gatherings, and other ways you can help.

Thank you for your support! We couldn’t do it without you. As our high school coalition says, “We have the best backyard in the world!”, let’s go enjoy it!
